Chris Kapps of the Fairbanks Daily Newsminer did a very nice article about our new Artistic Director, Courtland Weaver.
After dancing in France for nine years, Weaver worked as associate director of Alaska Dance Theatre in Anchorage, collaborated with other arts organizations and worked as stage manager and lighting designer/technical director at the Alice Bassler Sullivan Theatre. He was named Anchorage Concert Association’s educator of the year in 2004.
He knows Alaska, and he knows ballet.
One of his strengths is collaboration and innovation.
“I like to see my dancers dance. And not traditionally where you see them dance,” he said. “We used to call ourselves a guerrilla dance company. We would do dance interventions. It’s called flash mob now.”
